Pooja Bhatt gets abusive, threat calls

Actress-filmmaker Pooja Bhatt has been receiving obscene and threatening calls from an unidentified guy. She has filed an official complaint Wednesday at the Bandra police station here against the caller.
“Have been getting threatening/obscene calls. The male voice, obviously inebriated, abused me and threatened to come over,” Pooja shared on Twitter in the early hours of Wednesday.She called the police immediately, but only in vain.
I called 100 to complain. A rude female voice on the other end asked me to go to the nearest police station as she could not do anything. When I explained that it is close to 1 a.m. and I could not possibly be expected to go to the police station alone, she got extremely brusque,” wrote a Pooja.
The calls continued in the meantime.Pooja’s father, filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt, shared that he too had “received a call from the same number at 12.35 a.m. (January 9)”.”It’s organised terror,” he added.

Telugu New Movie Titled FUCK

The thumb rule for any film project is that it can gain the maximum attention and create maximum impact if its title is catchy. That is why many moviemakers spend a lot of time in coining the right title. But there are times when few titles not only surprise but also create a shock. Here is one such film’s title raising eyebrows.
It is titled as ‘FUCK’ but if you look at it closely then it is ‘F.U.C.K’ with a caption that reads Fun Unlimited Can Kill. This is being directed by Sandeep Raj and it is heard that this is an attempt from the NRI Telugus who claim this to be a unique attempt filled with elements of suspense and mystery.
The film has Akiti and his character’s name is Maddy. As of now, the title has caught the attention of many and some are also saying that it could be a message oriented youth entertainer. Whatever it is we would know as the makers start revealing more details in the future.

Ram’s Ongole Gitta Shooting Packup

Ram’s forthcoming movie Ongole Gitta is gearing up for a release in the last week of January. The regular shooting of the film has been wrapped up except for a song and it’ll be canned from January 10 onwards in Ramoji Film City.
Kriti Kharbanda is playing the female lead in the movie pairing up with Ram. Ongole Gitta is a commercial mass entertainer directed by Bommarillu Bhaskar and produced by BVSN Prasad on Sri Venkateswara Cine Chitra Pvt Ltd banner. GV Prakash has provided the musical scores for the film.
Ongole Gitta has earlier been shot in the locales of Guntur, Tanuku and Hyderabad. The audio is scheduled for a launch on 12th January.

Amrita Singh to play Arjun Kapoor’s mother in 2 States

Actress Amrita Singh will be seen playing onscreen mother to newbie Arjun Kapoor in Karan Johar’s cross-culture love story ’2 States’. “Amrita Singh has been roped in by Dharma Productions to play Arjun Kapoor’s mother in ’2 States’,” a source close to the project told PTI.
Earlier in Sanjay Gupta’s crime drama ‘Shootout at Lokhandwala’ the 54-year-old played mother to gangster Maya Dolas essayed by Vivek Oberoi. In Apoorva Lakhia’s ‘Dus Kahaniyaan’, she played mother to Minissha Lamba.
The shooting of ’2 States’ is yet to begin and the makers may start this from February or March. The film will see Arjun playing the role of a Punjabi boy, while newbie Alia Bhatt plays a Tamilian girl.
Its a story about two people from different states falling in love and the ensuing cultural clashes between them and their families.’2 States’ is directed by Abhishek Verman and co-produced by Karan Johar and Sajid Nadiadwala. The film is based on the novel of the same name by Chetan Bhagat.

Kannada Dirty Picture Title Changed

The controversy regarding the title Dirty Picture starring Pakistani Actress Veena Malik and Akshay has finally been solved. The makers of the film have changed the title to ‘Silk – Sakkath Hot’.
Earlier, producer Ekta Kapoor who is the producer of Dirty Picture starring Vidya Balan and Naseeruddin Shah had objected for the use of the title in Kannada claiming that she has the title rights. She had also sent a notice to the makers of Kannada Dirty Picture to change the title of the film soon. Neither producer Venkatappa nor director Trishul were ready to change the title and challenged Ekta Kapoor.
Ekta in turn registered a case at the Mumbai High Court and the court has given verdict that the title should be changed. With no other go, the makers of Dirty Picture have decided to change the title to Silk – Sakkath Hot. Earlier, Silk – Sakkath Hot was used as the sub-title.

Josh Brolin Arrested In California

Josh Brolin spent some of New Year’s Day and the following morning in a Southern California jail cell after getting arrested for misdemeanor public intoxication.
Santa Monica Police Lt. Darrell Lowe says the actor was not given a citation for the Tuesday arrest, which means he likely won’t have to appear in court.
Lowe says Brolin was arrested just before midnight January 1, when officers found him heavily intoxicated on a Santa Monica sidewalk. He was booked into jail and released about six hours later after he had sobered up.A call to a publicist for Brolin was not immediately returned Sunday.
Brolin is starring in the crime film “Gangster Squad,” which opens this week.

Director Vamsi to start his 25th film

Having completed three decades in the industry, veteran Telugu filmmaker Vamsy, known for movies like “Sitaara”, “Anveshana” and “Ladies Tailor”, feels he is happy to be still making films.
Thirty years is a very long time in a line of work. I’m happy that even after all these years I am active and working,” Vamsy said.The 56-year-old started his career in 1982 with the Telugu film “Manchupallaki” starring megastar Chiranjeevi, Suhasini and Rajendra Prasad.
Since then, he has gone on to make 24 films. He is all set to begin work on his next project.He will begin filming his upcoming yet-to-be-titled Telugu romantic-thriller from January-end.
I’ll start shooting for my 25th film from the end of this month (January). We have selected the lead actor through a college contest and based on the result we have zeroed in on the actor.The principal shooting will begin in Hyderabad and we will also shoot in places like Rajahmundry,” he added.
In the film, Tamil actor Ajmal Ameer will play the male lead opposite five heroines who are yet to be cast.The film has music by Chakri, and the composer has already finished two songs for it. Poorna Naidu will produce the film under his banner Sri. S. Chitra films.

Director Vishal Bhardwaj injured in Gurgaon event

Filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj was injured Tuesday when he fell down a flight of stairs at a mall here while promoting his forthcoming film ‘Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola’.
Bhardwaj, who was at Ambience Mall, was climbing the stairs in an ice skating parlour, when he slipped and fell on someone’s ice skating shoes.
He (Bhardwaj) was invited on stage. While climbing the stairs, he slipped and fell on someone’s ice skating shoes. He was taken to Max Hospital and got five stitches on the nose,” Shailesh Giri, the film’s publicist, who was present there told IANS.

Supreme Court notice to Amitabh Bachchan

Megastar Amitabh Bachchan, who was today issued a notice by the Supreme Court over tax dues, reacted philosophically to the development, saying “both death and Income Tax Department are inevitable in life.”
The apex court issued the notice on a petition by the Income Tax department, which has claimed that the megastar owes to it Rs 1.66 crore as taxes on his income he earned through quiz show ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’ during 2001-02. “There are two things in life that one will have to face – death and I-T Department. Both are inevitable.
In any case I will follow the Court’s order,” Bachchan told reporters here at the first promo of upcoming film ‘Jolly LLB’. ‘Jolly LLB’, directed by Subhash Kapoor of ‘Phas Gaya Re Obama’ fame, is a satire on Indian judiciary system. The film will see Arshad Warsi and Boman Irani playing lawyers. Bachchan was the chief guest at the event. “I am truly impressed with the promo of the film and I really liked it a lot. I hope the film achieves great success,” he said. Asked if he ever had a bitter experience with the judiciary, Big B said, “no not really.
I remember when my name cropped up during Bofors case in London…the only weapon I had was speaking the truth. Life of Pi actor Suraj Sharma gets BAFTA Nomination

‘Life of Pi’ lead star Suraj Sharma is the only male actor nominated for the BAFTA Rising Star award this year. The Indian actor is nominated alongside British actresses Juno Temple, Andrea Riseborough, Elizabeth Olsen and Alicia Vikander in the running for the award recognising new talent in the film industry, reported The Telegraph.
Suraj, 19, is the only male nominee on the shortlist, selected by a judging panel including ‘Sherlock Holmes’ actor Benedict Cumberbatch and director Kevin Macdonald.
To even be counted amongst this and the last seven years’ rising star nominees feels utterly phenomenal! The moment they sensed that Vishwaroopam could be out of the Pongal race, they increased the number of screens, which were primarily allotted to Vishwaroopam if Kamal Hassan sorted out his differences with theatres owners-distributors. As of now, Alex Pandian is getting close to 500 screens alone in Tamil Nadu and in over 650 screens the film will see the light of day worldwide. Death sentence can’t stop rapes: Nandita Das

Social activist and actress Nandita Das believes that death sentence cannot act as a deterrence against a crime like rape. “I don’t believe that death sentence is a solution to stop this because the conviction rate in our country is so low,” the 43-year-old said here Monday at the Janki Devi Bajaj Puraskar ceremony.
Recently the gang-rape of a 23-year-old girl in Delhi, who died of her injuries in a Singapore hospital, shocked everyone and triggered nationwide protests demanding new law for the culprits of such crimes.”Despite all that has been happening, there are still reports of such crimes (rapes) still happening,” she said.
Nandita said there are other ways that should instead be adopted.
In other countries such reports have been filed which state that death sentence has not lowered the graph of such crimes. In fact, the countries where such crimes happen less, they don’t even have any such thing as death sentence. Such criminals should instead be brought to speedy trial, social humiliation and other such things,” she suggested.
Nandita is aghast at current statements by many that hold women responsible for rapes.”This accusation that some people have been flinging these days that these crimes and rapes happen because girls wear skirts and other such clothes is utter nonsense. If this was true, then no village woman would be raped,” said Nandita who in ‘Bawandar’ played the role of Bhanwari Devi, a low-caste woman from a village in Rajasthan who was allegedly gang-raped in 1992.
Claiming an example from her piece of work, Nandita said, “I made film ‘Bawandar’ on Bhanwari Devi. Even her face used to be covered, this (rape) should not have happened with her then.”"We hear of a three-year-old girl being raped. Was she found in some nightclub? We should not shame ourselves by giving such excuses,” she added.

Character Actor Ned Wertimer Dies at 89

Ned Wertimer, who appeared on 11 seasons of “The Jeffersons” as Ralph The Doorman, is dead at age 89. The actor’s manager Brad Lemack confirmed to The Huffington Post Tuesday that Wertimer died on Jan. 2 following health complications at the Sherman Village Health Care Center in California.
Wertimer was a veteran television actor who appeared in more than 100 TV shows and movies since the 1950s. Besides his most memorable role as doorman Ralph Hart on the hit CBS sitcom, he took on parts in series like the “Mary Tyler Moore Show,” “The Debbie Reynolds Show” and “McMillan & Wife.”
He last acted in 2007′s blockbuster “Pirates of the Carribbean: At World’s End,” with Johnny Depp and Geoffrey Rush, as a pirate extra.He is survived by his wife, his brother’s wife and his niece and three nephews.

Lakshmi Rai wants to play Delhi gang rape victim Nirbhaya

Even as the country struggles to recover from the shock of the Delhi gang-rape and the subsequent death of the victim, ‘Nirbhaya’, film and TV serial makers have been quick to use the incident as inspiration for storylines.
Nirbhaya will soon come alive in a Telugu film and a Hindi crime series. And actress Lakshmi Rai, who is known for being vociferous about her opinions, says that she wouldn’t mind essaying the role of Nirbhaya on the big screen.
“I don’t see why I shouldn’t play a role like this. This is an issue that has affected many of the country’s youth and has raised an alarm like never before. I want to do my bit by playing the victim of the Delhi gang-rape,” says Lakshmi.
The actress, who will next be seen as a fiery journalist in AMR Ramesh’s Veerappan biopic, further adds, “By doing a film on Nirbhaya, I will be educating everyone on the dangers in society. From children to adults, everyone is in a state of panic.
